North Carolina basketball fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief—James Michael McAdoo will be back at Chapel Hill for at least another season. After taking time to consider the NBA Draft, McAdoo announced on Thursday his plans to return.
The fear of North Carolina being completely gutted for a season is finally gone.
According to Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina, McAdoo had this to say in a statement released to the school:
“I’ve had several discussions about my future plans with my family and Coach Williams and have decided to return to UNC to continue playing for the Tar Heels and continue my education. I love being at Carolina and really enjoy competing with and being around my teammates and am excited about what we can do together next season.”
“Every young basketball player wants to have as much information about his future and understand what others in the game think about him. It’s been interesting to learn the information that Coach Williams has gathered, but I am ready to continue as a Tar Heel. I’m enjoying my time in Chapel Hill and am excited about the future for my team and me.”
McAdoo impressed as a fill in in for John Henson when both he and Tyler Zeller were out.
In McAdoo’s last seven games, he averaged 10.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 steals over 23 minutes per game.
Am I convinced James Michael McAdoo will be as great as everyone expects? Not yet. But he did improve a lot over the last month of the season and I’m looking forward to watching him grow from there.
The guy has tons of potential. I’m glad he didn’t leave too early and waste away in the pros—not to mention put another hole in the Swiss cheese that is the UNC roster.
