Clemson vs. Alabama: Underrated Prospects in CFP Championship 2017

It should go without saying, but the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide boast plenty of NFL-ready talent on both sides of the football.  Those who have watched the two programs this year understand the wealth of talent well. For those who will see the teams for the first or second time in the College Football Playoff title game Monday, well, enjoy. The usual talent, of course, dominates the headlines. Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson might be one ...

Grading Every New College Football Head Coach Hire

Year after year, college football’s coaching carousel keeps spinning, with hirings, firings and moves across the board. 2016 was a quieter year than 2015, but it isn’t done quite yet. Tuesday afternoon, Minnesota kicked off the new year by firing Tracy Claeys after one full season as head coach, according to Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune. The Gophers are the only current FBS opening, although that could change if the NFL plucks a college ...

Once a No. 1 Candidate, Duke’s Harry Giles III Likely Can’t Save His Draft Stock

Everything about Harry Giles III's situation at Duke suggests a 2017 NBA draft slide is coming. Having already torn both ACLs before turning 19 years old, it's become clear just how damaging the timing was of October's setback—a third pre-college surgery that forced him to miss the first 11 games of the 2016-17 season. Predicting a tumble down June's board isn't a knee-jerk reaction to the 23 total minutes he's played, either. Although, if we learned anything ...

Clemson’s Mike Williams, the ‘Next Megatron,’ Could Be the Big Catch vs. Alabama

They come from all over to fish the fresh waters of Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie and just to be—to stare at forever on the horizon of South Carolina's inland sea, one of the most beautiful bodies of water on God's green earth. A handful of miles back and just off Old Number Six Highway, in the sleepy, tiny town of Vance—population less than 200—is the home of the NFL's next superstar receiver. The next Megatron. "For real?" ...

Broken Childhood and Controlled Rage Fuel Jonathan Allen, the Unstoppable Force

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — In high school, they used to call Jonathan Allen "the Hulk." It wasn't the most original nickname for a big, hulking, muscular football player who was mild-mannered off the field. But this name carried a dangerous and unknown reality with it. Allen really did go into a rage. He really did turn green. Well, close anyway. His own high school teammates were afraid to talk to him on game days. Allen, now Alabama's All-American ...

Alabama Football Recruiting: Tide’s National Signing Day Wish List a Month Out

Still, finishing No. 1 is the annual goal, with doing so in recruiting often leading to comparable results in an upcoming season. Alabama's had unparalleled success in both respects under head coach Nick Saban. With roughly ...

Who Has the Best Starting 5 in College Basketball in 2016-17?

The Villanova Wildcats only really play seven guys and are No. 1 in the nation in all of the polls, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the defending national champs sit atop our list of the best starting fives in men's college basketball for this season.  Quality of depth is one of the most important factors in evaluating college basketball teams, but what if we stripped away the benches and only looked ...
