South Carolina forced the game into overtime after trailing by 18 points in the third quarter, but South Florida held on for the 46-39 victory in the 2016 Birmingham Bowl. Bulls quarterback Quinton Flowers accounted for 366 total yards and five touchdowns in the win, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Elkanah Dillion to put South Florida ahead in overtime.
Flowers was effective on the ground as he rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns, and that opened up some opportunities for him to throw it down the field. D'Ernest Johnson led the team with 95 yards receiving, and Marlon Mack rushed for 50 yards despite missing time due to injury.
