No. 12 Virginia used a stifling defensive effort to hold off No. 6 Louisville 61-53 on Wednesday night at the KFC Yum! Center in each team's ACC opener.
The Cavaliers (11-1, 1-0 ACC) led by 15 at the half and as many as 21 in the second half before holding off a furious Cardinals run down the stretch.
Devon Hall led Virginia with 10 points.
London Perrantes and Kyle Guy each contributed nine points.
The Cardinals (11-2, 0-1 ACC) could not find any cracks in the Virginia defense until the closing minutes of the game. They turned the ball over 14 times and shot just 2-of-14 from long range.
Deng Adel, Tony Hicks and Quentin Snider led Louisville with eight points apiece.
