Looking at Cal's 2009 schedule, fans and pundits will mark the Oct. 3 tilt against the USC Trojans at Memorial Stadium as the pivotal contest in the Golden Bears' quest for Pac-10 supremacy (and a BCS birth).
But despite the fact that this should be the only game in which the Bears will not be favored, the match-up is not the one that scares me most.
Why?
Because even more than losses to the Trojans, Cal football's biggest Achilles' heel has been dismal road performances.
Of the team's 13 blemishes since the start of the 2006 season, all but two have come outside the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium.
