Admit it, you were glued to your television during the first Saturday of the college football season and had one overwhelming thought when your head hit the pillow. "What is wrong with the SEC?" After No. 5 LSU fell to unranked Wisconsin, South Alabama upset Mississippi State, Southern Miss stunned Kentucky, Missouri fell at West Virginia, Auburn played quarterback roulette in a loss to Clemson and Arkansas and Tennessee struggled in wins over lesser competition, it was ...

This was hyped up as the best opening weekend in college football history, and Saturday did not disappoint.  According to SportsCenter, Saturday was the first time two Top Five teams fell on opening weekend since 1972. The first college football Saturday of the year was complete with major upsets, high-powered offenses and breakout stars. And if you didn't get enough, there are two more nights of high-profile games before Week 1 wraps up.  Based on the weekend's results ...

Those Hoping for a Regression from Alabama Are in for a Rude Awakening This Year

The names on the backs of the jerseys late in the fourth quarter told the story. They weren’t those of the Alabama starters against No. 20 Southern California, nor even the primary backups. It was playing third-stringers and walk-ons, including Cooper Bateman, the quarterback who most people thought would start, but for now at least appears to be on the outside looking in. It raised the question: What’s a step up from being No. 1? Whatever it is, ...

Breaking Down the Biggest Overreactions in College Football in Week 1

Posted by Adam Kramer on September 4 2016 Add Comments
Be overjoyed. Be devastated. Be over the top in some shape or form. No week in college football produces more outlandish, baseless claims than Week 1. It’s a ritual, you see. We do this yearly. We see, we react and we overreact. Lather, rinse, repeat. Things happen, and the sky falls on a fanbase or program. The season ends now. Heismans are handed out like candy on Halloween. National championships are won and lost in 60 minutes. The whole ...

It wasn't the resounding statement it wanted to make, but No. 2 Clemson (1-0) came away from its trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium a winner after registering a closer-than-expected 19-13 win over Auburn (0-1). The Clemson Tigers remain a major factor in this year's College Football Playoff race, but questions emerged after their underwhelming performance Saturday night. The offense failed to establish a rhythm, but on the other side of the ball, their young defense stepped up ...

NCAA Football Rankings 2016: Predicting the Top 25 After Week 1

So, that was fun, right? The opening weekend of the 2016 college football season was largely regarded as the best opening-weekend slate in the sport’s history. And boy, did it live up to the hype. When the new Associated Press Top 25 poll comes out Tuesday morning, it will bear little resemblance to the poll that we started with Thursday night. With Notre Dame-Texas and Florida State-Ole Miss still remaining this weekend, five ranked teams fell to ...

Clemson vs. Auburn: Score and Twitter Reaction

Posted by Adam Wells on September 4 2016 Add Comments
The Clemson Tigers' quest to return to the College Football Playoff got off to a roaring start as they knocked off the Auburn Tigers 19-13 on Saturday night. This game was a defensive battle for most of the way, with Clemson taking advantage of a couple of openings and one big penalty to begin its 2016 campaign with a victory.  Auburn's much-maligned defense showed a lot of poise against a high-powered Clemson offense that includes Heisman Trophy ...
